Q: What is DragonRealms?
A: DragonRealms is a highly addictive, text-based online multiplayer game that's more innovative, all-encompassing, and ground-breaking as any graphical game you can imagine. You can find the website at http://dragonrealms.net/.

Q: Is this part of DragonRealms, Play.Net or Simutronics??
A: Newp. This is a project independent of that game/site/company.

Q: What is The DragonRealms Profiler?
A: It's a web application developed from the ground up that allows folks to be able to track their characters, update their attributes and experience/skills and provide a medium to easy show others their progress. Is it a little superflous? Maybe, but it might come in handy to give folks a URL when you'd like them to see what skills you have when refering to a situation or question on the boards.

Q: How much does this service cost?
A: Free of charge.

Q: No crap?
A: No crap, but if you get the hankerin' to drop a plat or two on me, I'm usually on as Faethe. :)

Q: Who are you?
A: My name is Rob -- you may know me in Prime by the name Wynder, Faethe or Mobyus. You may know me as the guy who runs Crossroads of Elanthia. You may know me as (former) GM-Chade the GM from Modus Operandi or the (short-lived) Quest Coding GM from Hero's Journey (damned family!). ;) I'm a web app and database developer by night and a computer science teacher and traditional Irish musician by night.

Q: How do I get started with the profiler?
A: You create an account -- all you need is an email address and a password. I recommend that you don't use your Play.Net password, although I store the passwords encrypted (one-way), so if you forget it, you'll be emailed a method to generate a new password.

Q: Then what?
A: Once you have an account, you can click on the 'My Characters' link at the top -- if you don't have any characters, you'll be prompted to create one. If you do have one or more, you can select one to update or view.

Q: What's involved in creating a character?
A: You enter their character name, the server on which you play and the guild and circle if you so desire. From there, you can paste in the contents of your INFO screen and your EXP screen -- the web application will parse out the information and store it appropriately.

Q: What about updating?
A: It's a similar screen -- you can update and change the information, leaving any parts you wish to remain unchanged.

Q: How can other people view my characters?
A: Well, there's a search function on the main page. Also, when you view your character, you'll be provided with a URL that you can cut and paste. I also forgot to mention that, when you create/update your character, you can mark any of your characters as 'Not Public' so they won't show up unless it's you looking at them.

Q: What'd you use to write this application?
A: PHP and MySQL -- I write my pages by hand using vi (hardcore, baby!).

Q: How long did it take you?
A: About two days to get stuff to the point where I wanted to release it for testing.
